The Pongal Celebration at Bharath Institute of Law was held on 12 January 2026 and transformed the campus into a vibrant cultural space reflecting the heritage and festive spirit of Tamil Nadu. The programme commenced at 9:30 AM and featured a full day of traditional events, competitions, and artistic performances rooted in community participation and cultural expression. The celebration was graced by Prof. Dr. K. Murugadoss (Dean), Prof. Dr. B. Hariraman (Associate Dean) and Mr. R. The celebration featured several traditional competitions including Pulli Kolam (Rangoli), Pongal cooking contest, Uriyadi, Tug of War and Ilavattakal, which brought together students across programmes. Participants demonstrated artistic skill through colourful kolam patterns, showcased their culinary talent by preparing traditional Pongal dishes, and engaged in spirited competitions that fostered teamwork and camaraderie. The Uriyadi event added an element of excitement as blindfolded participants attempted to break the suspended pot within the stipulated time. The campus resembled a festive village fair with a Pongal Sandhai, where stalls sold traditional savouries and festive items. The college presented sarees as gifts to all sweepers, honouring their contribution to the campus community.
The cultural segment included musical and dance performances, where students rendered Tamil folk songs and contemporary tracks, uplifting the atmosphere. Manisha V (B.Com. LL.B. Hons.), Murasoli S (V B.A. LL.B. Hons.), Swathi (II LL.B. Hons.) and Jerry (III B.B.A. LL.B. Hons.) were among the singers who contributed to the programme’s entertainment. Traditional Tamil martial arts were highlighted through Silambam performed by Sujithra M (III B.B.A. LL.B. Hons.) and team, and Surul Vaal and Sword Techniques demonstrated by Dhinakaran M (V year), reflecting ancient Tamil martial heritage. The programme concluded with a DJ session that added a contemporary festive touch.
The event was coordinated by a dedicated faculty team comprising C. Suguna (Coordinator), Mrs. Sidhee Shajee, Mrs. Anitha, Mr. Balraj, Ms. Lavanya, Mr. Sarath Uthandan, Mr. Rukmangathan, Mr. Dharani and Ms. Jyothi. The student organising committee consisted of Navas (IV B.A. LL.B. A Sec.), Banshenraj (IV B.A. LL.B. A Sec.) and Aathya (IV B.A. LL.B. The celebration concluded on a note of gratitude, with heartfelt thanks extended to ADR Sir, Dean Sir and Associate Dean Sir for their guidance, encouragement and administrative support. The Pongal celebration not only reinforced cultural identity but also reflected the educational philosophy that holistic learning includes exposure to cultural, traditional and community-based activities alongside academic training, thereby strengthening both institutional culture and constitutional values.
