Bharath Institute of Law, BIHER, successfully organized a Legal Aid and Awareness Campaign on 08 November 2025 at Bahoor Village, Puducherry, under the aegis of its Legal Aid Clinic. The campaign was conducted with the objective of spreading legal awareness among the rural population and ensuring access to free legal assistance for marginalized and vulnerable communities.
The programme witnessed active participation from Legal Aid Clinic students, supervised by faculty members of Bharath Institute of Law, and was well supported by local Panchayat officials, including the Panchayat President, and practicing advocates from the region. Approximately 45 members of the local community actively engaged in the campaign.
As part of the awareness initiative, students performed street plays (Nukkad Natak) highlighting key social and legal issues such as labour rights and domestic violence, effectively communicating complex legal concepts in a simple and relatable manner. This was followed by interactive awareness sessions on fundamental legal rights, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and legal issues specific to the fishing community, including coastal regulations and welfare schemes.
A major highlight of the programme was the establishment of a Free Legal Aid and Redressal Clinic, where three practicing advocates provided on-the-spot legal consultation and guidance to nearly 25 individuals, addressing a wide range of legal grievances.
The campaign concluded with a felicitation and vote of thanks, acknowledging the cooperation of the Panchayat authorities, advocates, and local residents. The initiative reaffirmed Bharath Institute of Law’s commitment to social justice, community outreach, and experiential legal education by bridging the gap between legal knowledge and grassroots realities.
