Anti Ragging Committee

"Ragging is a form of systematic and sustained abuse that threatens the dignity and freedom of an individual. It has no place in a civilised educational environment."

Bharath Institute of Law maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging in all its forms. The Anti-Ragging Committee is constituted in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, and the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. The committee is dedicated to ensuring a safe, secure, and inclusive academic environment for all students.

Objectives
  • To prevent any form of ragging on campus and in associated facilities such as hostels, classrooms, and transportation
  • To spread awareness about the harmful consequences of ragging and the legal implications
  • To maintain constant vigilance through monitoring and interaction with students
  • To take prompt action upon receiving any complaint related to ragging
  • To ensure strict implementation of anti-ragging policies laid down by the UGC and the institution
What Constitute Ragging?

Ragging includes, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal or physical abuse
  • Teasing, bullying, or harassment of juniors by seniors
  • Forceful activities meant to cause embarrassment or discomfort
  • Any act that affects the dignity of a student

As per the UGC regulations, Ragging is a Criminal Offense and is Punishable under Law.

The Anti-Ragging Committee at Bharath Institute of Law comprises senior faculty members responsible for prevention, supervision, and redressal of ragging incidents.

Students can report incidents of ragging to any member of the Anti-Ragging Committee or via the official email. Immediate and confidential action will be taken.

Disciplinary Committee

At Bharath Institute of Law, discipline is regarded as a cornerstone of academic excellence and professional development. The Disciplinary Committee functions as the primary body responsible for ensuring a safe, respectful, and conducive learning environment. It upholds the institutional values of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct among students, faculty, and staff.

Objectives
  • To maintain discipline and enforce the code of conduct within the institution.
  • To address issues of indiscipline, misconduct, or violations of institutional norms.
  • To ensure fair inquiry and resolution of complaints in accordance with the principles of natural justice.
  • To create awareness about acceptable behavior, institutional values, and legal ethics.

Jurisdiction

The Disciplinary Committee is empowered to take action on the following:

  • Acts of academic dishonesty, including plagiarism and cheating
  • Ragging, harassment, or discriminatory behavior
  • Willful damage to college property
  • Misuse of ICT resources or college infrastructure
  • Disruption of institutional activities and violation of college rules

Reporting Misconduct

Complaints or incidents of misconduct can be formally reported to the Disciplinary Committee through the Dean’s Office or by submitting a written grievance. All reports are handled with strict confidentiality and processed in accordance with institutional procedures.

The Bharath Institute of Law is committed to ensuring that all disciplinary proceedings are carried out with impartiality, confidentiality, and due regard for the rights of all individuals involved.

Legal Aid Committee

The Legal Aid Committee at Bharath Institute of Law is established with the vision of promoting social justice and legal empowerment by extending legal assistance to the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society. The committee actively works in alignment with the objectives of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) to ensure access to justice for all.

The committee also seeks to inculcate a sense of social responsibility and legal awareness among students, equipping them with practical knowledge of the legal system through community engagement and legal outreach programs.

Objectives
  • To provide free legal aid and advice to those in need, particularly underprivileged and disadvantaged groups
  • To create legal awareness in rural and urban communities through legal literacy camps and awareness drives
  • To train law students in client counseling, legal drafting, and case analysis through practical involvement
  • To collaborate with legal services authorities and NGOs for outreach and capacity-building initiatives
  • To promote the values of constitutional morality, legal ethics, and access to justice
Functions and Activities
  • Organizing legal aid camps, awareness drives, and street plays in collaboration with legal authorities
  • Conducting legal literacy programmes on rights-based issues such as women’s rights, consumer protection, labor laws, and more
  • Providing guidance and initial legal consultation under the supervision of faculty members
  • Facilitating internships and fieldwork opportunities for students in legal aid centers, courts, and ngos
  • Coordinating with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) for case referrals and outreach
