Two-Day National Conference on “Climate Change and Sustainable Development: Pathways to a Resilient Future”

The School of Law, Bharath Institute of Law, under the esteemed aegis of the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), successfully organized a Two-Day National Conference on “Climate Change and Sustainable Development: Pathways to a Resilient Future” on October 31 and November 1, 2025. The conference served as a vibrant academic platform aimed at fostering meaningful dialogue, strengthening research collaborations, and promoting policy-driven approaches to address the escalating global climate crisis.

Overwhelming National Participation

The event witnessed an exceptional nationwide response, reflecting the rising academic interest in environmental law and sustainability studies.

A total of:

  • 152 Offline Participants

participated from various reputed institutions across India. The conference proposal, submitted on August 25, 2025, received immediate approval from BIHER’s visionary leadership. The brochure released on September 12, 2025, significantly broadened national outreach and attracted remarkable engagement from scholars, professionals, and students.

Inaugural Ceremony

The conference commenced with an elegant inaugural ceremony held at the Moot Court Hall, BIHER. The session opened with a cultural invocation, setting a reflective and respectful tone for the event.

Prof. (Dr.) K. Murugadoss, Dean, School of Law, delivered the Welcome Address, expressing the institution’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary environmental discourse.

The event was honored by the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. Venugopal, Judicial Member, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), New Delhi, and former Judge of the Madras High Court, as the Chief Guest. In his profound inaugural address, Justice Venugopal underscored the urgency of adopting coordinated legal, scientific, and policy frameworks to combat climate change, stressing that sustainable progress requires collaborative and innovative approaches.

A dignified Book Release Ceremony added scholarly significance to the inaugural session, marking an important contribution to environmental literature and research.

Expert Panel Discussion

A high-level Panel Discussion brought together distinguished experts from the fields of environmental governance, legal policy, biodiversity, and climate studies. The panel featured:

Valedictory Session

The conference drew to a distinguished close with the Valedictory Session, graced by Hon’ble Justice Bhavani Subbarayan, Former Judge, High Court of Madras, and Chairperson, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.

Justice Bhavani delivered an inspiring valedictory address, emphasizing the collective responsibility of legal professionals, policymakers, and academic institutions in advancing environmental justice and sustainability initiatives. She highlighted the indispensable role of law in shaping climate resilience and fostering environmental accountability.

She also presented certificates to the winners and participants, appreciating the dedication and scholarly contributions showcased throughout the conference.

Thus, The Two-Day National Conference stood as a landmark academic event, successfully uniting scholars, researchers, environmental experts, and legal practitioners on a single platform.
